Plant description:
These wonderful shrubs and trees flower from May through to early Spring. Although hardy to frost, magnolias must be protected by cold winds, which can damage their delicate blooms. Flourishing in full sun, magnolias can take some shade as long as the light is bright. They enjoy a slightly acid soil (pH 6.0-7.0), but will thrive even in neutral soil. When planting, give them a large hole with plenty of acid compost. Keep them well mulched with organic material. Magnolias need to be watered regularly.
