Plant description:

A deciduous tree reaching 15–25 m tall, with a trunk up to 1 m diameter, with finely fissured bark. Leaves are 5–10 cm broad, with five blunt, rounded lobes with a smooth margin. Field Maple is widely grown as an ornamental tree in parks and large gardens overseas. Even used as a bonsai. Often branches very low to the ground, with a medium texture. It colours late in autumn and is a good, uniform yellow colour. It is adaptable to many soils, including very alkaline, very acid, dry or compacted sites. It withstands air pollution, tolerates heavy pruning (used as big hedges in Europe and the US), is easily transplanted and easily tolerates urban conditions. An excellent specimen for residential areas as a lawn tree, can be pruned into a hedge, a good choice for urban sites.
